Undergraduate Opportunities

Prospective undergraduate students should review our partner departments and programs above, in the graduate opportunities section. Undergraduates in CIRES participate in research experiences for undergraduates, work in laboratories as undergraduate research assistants, or help run CIRES as part of the administrative team.

Global Sustainability Scholars

The Global Sustainability Scholars program brings together talented undergraduates for a paid summer immersive experience, where students travel abroad, conduct research, and build their professional network in real-world sustainability issues.

Each year we select undergraduates to join a GSS cohort and the larger international sustainability solutions community. Scholars get paid over two summers while focusing their training and research on a theme within Sustainability.

NOAA Global Systems Laboratory/CIRES Undergraduate Internships

The NOAA Global Systems Laboratory (GSL)/CIRES Summer Internship is available for undergraduates and graduate students. Interns conduct a research project i in person n collaboration with NOAA and CIRES scientists over a ten-week period in the summer. Applications open October and close early February.  GSL research improves environmental prediction models, develops state-of-the-science decision support tools and visualization systems, and uses high-performance computing technology to support a Weather-Ready Nation.
