As an advocate of interdisciplinary research, my scientific interests lie in understanding the emergence, evolution, and detection of life. Currently I am studying pyrite from different depositional environments across geologic time. By analyzing sulfur isotopes and trace elements from pyrite crystals I can unravel (1) microbial occurrences, via sulfur isotope fractionation (2) environmental parameters, via trace element incorporation. Furthermore, I use machine learning algorithms to classify biogenic vs abiotic pyrite and reactive-transport models to understand the evolution of sulfur within porefluids, sediments and pyrite crystals.
