Like education and politics, workplace culture is local. CIRES doesn't have one monolithic culture; we have an assemblage of cultures that vary by sub-unit, lab and work team. What matters to people is how they are treated by the people they see day in and day out.
Day to day behavior is an important aspect of an inclusive culture. Where there are issues, they impact marginalized and minoritized groups more often and to a greater extent.
Positive behaviors at the work group level make people feel included, help the work go better and contribute to the group's ability to do innovative and impactful research.
So, how should a work team or leader establish positive group behaviors? We'll talk about the bedrock that underlies behavior, some examples and a process for starting the conversation.
